Concrete art as an inner attitude
Going forward, falling, getting up, moving on — a rhythm that shapes my life.
Step by step, against resistance, with decisions that were not always easy, but always my own. I get up again, lose feathers, gain new ones, and continue in the direction I have chosen myself. My own path was never the safe one, but the right one.
Why Concrete Art?
Classical concrete art worked with clear rules: colors instead of motifs. Numbers instead of titles. Construction instead of meaning.
The form should stand for itself. Without narrative, without symbolism, without personal traces. My work builds on this clarity, but not on the strictness. I adopt the geometry, the reduction, the precision, but I detach myself from the idea that art must not have an attitude.
My Concrete Art arises from my life: from decisions, from consequence, from moving on. Lines provide orientation, surfaces maintain calm, proportions grow from experience. The construction remains clear, but it carries an inner direction. Thus, my work connects two levels: the formal clarity of concrete art and the personal attitude from which it arises.

Dass Barbara Maahs aus einem ingenieurgeprägten, architektonischen Umfeld kommt, ist dabei kein biografisches Detail, sondern eine Haltung: Der Prozess ist meditativ und kontrolliert – von analogen und digitalen Entwürfen bis zur präzisen Umsetzung, bei der sie Grundtöne selbst mischt und jede Farbe dreifach aufträgt, um Tiefe, Reinheit und Genauigkeit zu erreichen. So wird Geometrie zum Vehikel für innere Prozesse – Mut, Wandel, Beziehungen – ohne Pathos, aber mit spürbarer Dringlichkeit.
Ihr Potenzial liegt darin, diese Klarheit noch stärker in seriellen Progressionen zu bündeln, damit die konzeptuelle Tiefe der Werke dauerhaft mitschwingt. Die Messe- und Galeriepräsenz (u.a. Discovery Art Fair Cologne, C.A.R. Essen) bestätigt eine professionelle, belastbare Position.“

Barbara Maahs, born in the Lower Rhine region and shaped by life in Bochum in the Ruhr area, particularly by the structural changes in the coal and steel industry there, develops a clear, constructive visual language that combines order, change, and spatial precision.
Durch Kunst zur eigenen Bestimmung
After training as a technical draftswoman and studying architecture and design in Düsseldorf and Dortmund, she worked in various architectural firms before health challenges necessitated a career change. Returning to art became a logical step: since 2021, she has worked exclusively as an artist of Concrete Art.
Her works are based on geometric reduction, color, and structure, reflecting questions of change, self-determination, and inner alignment. Barbara Maahs lives and works in Hamburg.
